21.03.03 adonnaM.mp3, Filesharing, the Hidden Revolution in the Internet.
Opening on March 20 at the Museum fŸr Angewandte Kunst in Frankfurt, 'adonnaM.mp3 - File Sharing, the Hidden Revolution in the Internet' is an exhibition trying to investigate, for the first time from an aesthetical and social point of view, the phenomenons of audio file sharing, the peer-to-peer networking and the mp3 standard. The drastic changes brought forth by the most used audio compression standard and its massive effect on society and the music market are as big as its artistic and aesthetical effects. A new mode of communication (that is, peer-to-peer) has grown rapidly, becoming a tool for expressing oneself, as well as a tool for spreading the memory of sounds. In addition to an introductory part, featuring semiweekly workshops on 'digital musicians', some related works will be presented: 'Lux', by Markus Bader, a modified mirrorball with a website which plays the same mp3 'played' by the ball and supplied by the users; 'Coverbox', by Gregor/Jesek/Schršder, a database linking 500 mp3 covers of original songs, showing the links between the musicians and the potential data networks; 'Heavy Rotation Revisor', by Meso, an installation-instrument which can be 'played' by four persons at a time, allowing a live remix of the sounds broadcasted on radio; 'Minitasking', by Schoenerwissen, and 'ReBraun', by Zirkeltraining, where an old Braun stereo made in 1962 is reprogrammed and used as hardware for bootlegging. The exhibition is supervised by Franziska Nori and will close on April 20.
