24.07.03 Domain Name Anarchy, self-government of DNS.
Presented at the Hackmeeting 2003, Domain Name Anarchy is a project of democratization of the domain name system, the system responsible for the conversion of domain names into IP addresses, which constitutes a fundamental part of the Internet. At this stage, the goal of DNA is to create a parallel network of authoritative DNSs for new free top level domains. Its advantage, compared to other similar projects, is the integration with the standard DNSs, something which could accelerate its diffusion, instead of trying to substitute them. Using an SQL database and a DNA server, freely downloadable from the site, it's possible to create new top level domains on request, which can then be resolved by the DNA network of servers, which transparently fall back on canonical DNS servers. This projects has a mailing list, which could spark a new possibility of grassroots self-organization of the supporting structures of the Internet.
