More generally, do territorial characters exist in an art form which, by definition, implies a widely spread (when not patently transnational) user base? This research, written by two researchers of the m-cult, an active media art institution, confronts with this problem through an analytical study involving all the 'nordic' countries (Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland) and succeds in finding both local and regional characters and common traits which transcend political boundaries. This result offers an answer to the questions we asked at the beginning. The artistic use of real-time media naturally tends to quiclkly bring out similarities and contrasts of the territories whose boundaries are ancient, obsolete legacies. Moreover, the possibilities to share ideas and visions which need a meeting place in the physical world (media lab, schools, institutions) to share strategies and practices develops results which transcend the local 'scenes'. This book is a good collection of knowledge to support an adequate development of the interaction and collaboration between different spaces, people and cultures.
