Panos Fakes Roadsigns, Kanardo
05.07.04 Panos, Fakes Roadsigns.
Vector cutting technologies, thanks to special plotters, have greatly simplified the production of extremely precise artifacts which realistically copy real objects. Panos Fakes Roadsigns is a brilliant project curated by Kanardo and presented to the 'Nuits Sonores' festival, where 100 road signs made by 40 artists have been placed throughout the streets of Lyon, France. The insertion of new symbols, only rarely contextualized within the surrounding environment, changes the usual perception of that environment, injecting strategical pieces into the urban narration. The application of the 'fake' paradigm, using the conventional form, induces a new awareness and contributes to form a different conscience of one's own spaces, enriching one's own symbolic vocabulary thanks to an expressive possibility never experienced before. Until the end of July 2004 it's possible to contribute to a sort of parallel competition which will award a prize to the best three. To contribute, one has to download an EPS template and fill it in with one's own idea.
