. book (edited by) Marina Grzinic Stelarc, Political Prosthesis and Knowledge of the Body <book> Maska book ISBN 9619030982 The body of the greek / australian artist Stelarc will probably go down in history as one of the icons of the culture of the Nineties, that is, of the transition period from analog to digital culture. This text, properly subtitled 'Political Prosthesis & Knowledge of the Body', is the first one completely dedicated to this artist, and it's curated by Marina Grzinic who followed his artistic evolution through the years. A monographic work, more than a tribute, which recollects the stages of an exceptional artistic career, from the robotic arm 'The Third Hand', made in 1981, until the more recent Exoskeleton, a structure which moves accordingly to the human being at its center, perfected, through the years, with more and more robotic controls. From multiple prosthesis to internal explorations ('Stomach Sculpture'), the artist has always treated his agglomerate of muscles and bones as an unique object of research, and this book gives him another well-deserved recognition. |
