30.12.02 Pirat_@zione_project: anti-copyright Santa.
On December 24th, a daring as well as ironic action of some militants of the 'csaPaci'Paciana - Pirat_@zione_project' has disturbed the stale atmosphere of the Virgin Megastore in Milan, during the pre-Christmas days. One of the guys was dressed like Santa and, together with the others, distributed leaflets and CDs containing mastered copies of the top 40 songs and a self-interview in which he explains to have been forced into illegality by the prohibitive prices of commercial CDs. On the same CDs there were also programs, with manuals, for connecting to the peer-to-peer networks. The leaflet, titled 'Copy_Invaders', defines the thing that the economic powers call 'piracy' as a protest and social transformation movement which, when it becomes self-conscious, will be unstoppable. It also claims the right of using technologies for abolishing the distinction between 'copy' and 'original', but most of all for realizing a different model of knowledge management (free exchange and collaborative evolution) which extends to software, to every cultural product, to medicines, to vegetable species and to genetic sequences. Long live the pirates, then.
