03.08.03 Garage 2003 Festival, no concept.
Provocatively subtitled 'No Concept', the Garage 2003 Festival opened on July 25 in Stralsund (Germany). The curators, this time, have tried to deal with one of the most important subjects of our times: the feeling of uncertainty, insecurity and disorientation and, at the same time, of open possibilities brought forth by the dramatic social and infrastructural changes. Like in the previous editions, the acoustic part has been carefully organized, with the architectonic vibrations of Mark Bain - 'Trembling Structures', the interactive frequencies in the dark by Alex Davies - 'Heterodyne', 'Anchortronic 5.1', the new surround dvd/installation by Time's Up, 'Fruit Power', the sounds generated according to the electrical conductivity of different fruits by X.v.Wersch/D.Krooshof/T.Scheele, the sound waves emitted by cell phones as a way to control resonating magnets in 'MobileMinder' by Matthias Fitz, the acoustic navigation system 'Sonic Maze' by Christian Engler and the programmable urban sounds of 'stadt sound station' by akuvido. The other installations include the transformations of forsaken data of 'Garbage In/Garbage Out' by the Robot Software, the instant paper models of 'The world as cardboard model' by the Eiscafé, the cultural adoptions of 'Adopted', by Gudrun F. Widlok, 'Self-Trigger Keys', keys as small metaphorical sculptures in public places by Aniko Szövenyi, the hyronically self-made surveillance camera of 'DIY: CCTV', by the triPhaze, the phony computer programs for switching religion 'plug'n'pray', by the italian Lionello Borean, 'stop motion studies', the studies on animation by David Crawford, the files of abandoned projects of 'files and folders' by Thomas Keller, 'numb', by Christian Oyarz'n, a web application for psychometric tests, the transmission of body movements using sensors of 'noBody' by Christian Oyarz'n, the keywords collectively shown in 'Key+Words', by Magali Desbazeille and Siegfried Canto and 'la langue se charge' by Michaël Sellam. The conference 'Instable Systems' with Andreas Broeckmann, Antye Greie, Simon Waters, Eric Hobijn and Thilges3, the exhibition of short films 'g-niale' and a rich programme of live concerts complete the festival.
