.art 20.01.06 19th Stuttgarter Filmwinter: Mondo Cannibale. On January 19th the nineteenth edition of the Stuttgart FIlmwinter will open. This year's theme is 'Mondo Cannibale', taking as a reference a classic of the exploitation filmography to symbolized the actual mutual absorption between religious fundamentalism and the capital that uses body and blood images to survive. A two part conference summarizes the event's spirit. It is done by Florian Cramer, that apart from being a net activist and theorist and ad an expert of electronic literature, is also a collector of this type of movies. Similarly to the last editions (2003, 2004 e 2005), the media art selection is rich, with the exhibition 'Expanded Media' at the Württembergischer Kunstverein, with an intriguing path drawn with works that have an explicit cinematic component, and among them Dripping Sounds by Federico Muelas. Many events are concentrated in the weekend, including live concerts, presentations and projections, including the films of Malcolm LeGrice, one of the main representative of the Expanded Cinema movement in the seventies. But it is very interesting that the festival is extended beyond its annual event, in its Ongoing Festival incarnation that reflects for all the year long the organizers' cultural activity collaborating with the different local venues and collectives. |
